Connect your MCP client
Every published Elva MCP server has a hosted URL and an install page that generates these steps for you. This page shows the same setup for the six clients the install page supports. In the examples, replace orders_mcp with your server key and the URL with your server's MCP URL.
Authentication works the same way in every client. The first connection opens a browser window. For OAuth servers you sign in with the provider; for API key or bearer servers you enter your credential on Elva's authorization page. No secret goes into the config file.
Set up your client
Custom connector (suggested). Open Settings → Connectors, select Add custom connector, paste the MCP URL, and select Connect. Sign in or authorize in the browser, then return to Claude.
Config file. Add the server to claude_desktop_config.json, then fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop. A browser window opens to authorize. Requires Node and npx.

"mcpServers": {
"orders_mcp": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["mcp-remote@0.1.25", "https://your-mcp-url"]
}
}
}
claude mcp add --transport http orders_mcp https://your-mcp-url
In a Claude Code session, run /mcp, select the server, and choose Authenticate. Approve in the browser.
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project. Cursor detects that it needs authorization and opens the flow.

"mcpServers": {
"orders_mcp": { "url": "https://your-mcp-url" }
}
}
Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json. Note that the key is servers, not mcpServers. VS Code discovers OAuth on the first connection and opens the authorize flow.
{
"servers": {
"orders_mcp": { "type": "http", "url": "https://your-mcp-url" }
}
}
Add the server to ~/.gemini/settings.json using the native URL form.
{
"mcpServers": {
"orders_mcp": { "httpUrl": "https://your-mcp-url" }
}
}
Add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml, then log in. A browser window opens to authorize.
[mcp_servers.orders_mcp]
url = "https://your-mcp-url"
codex mcp login orders_mcp
Other MCP clients
Any client that supports remote MCP over HTTP can connect with the raw configuration shown at the bottom of the install page:
{
"mcpServers": {
"orders_mcp": { "url": "https://your-mcp-url" }
}
}
Verify the connection
Ask the agent for one known read-only result, confirm the tool list matches what you published, and find the call in MCP insights & logs. If the client shows old tools or fails to authorize, see Troubleshooting.
